While less than 15 percent of all shipments in the US are moved by rail and while many rural areas have lost rail service due to mergers, Twin Falls, Jerome and Gooding are fortunate that railroad transportation is available via a branch line connecting to the UPSP mainline. The Union Pacific Railroad formerly operated the branch line before being purchased in 1995 by Eastern Idaho Railroad.
