Filer

"Home of the Twin Falls County Fair"
Picture
The City of Filer is located just west of the intersection of U.S. Highway 93 and U.S. Highway 30 and sits between Buhl and Twin Falls in central Southern Idaho. With a population of 2,851, Filer has a wonderful small-town charm with a robust history.

Since 1916, the City of Filer has been the home of the Twin Falls County Fair and Rodeo. The Twin Falls County Fair is host to more than 75,000 people, making it one of the biggest fairs in the Northwest United States. The fair features 200 local vendors, the Mighty Thomas Carnival, rodeo, concert, motocross show and more entertainment for residents and visitors.
Named in honor of Walter G. Filer who served as general manager of the Twin Falls Water and Land Company, the town of Filer was established in 1906 as the terminus of the Oregon Short Line branch of Twin Falls, Idaho. Walter Filer was a mining engineer and surveyor from Sharon, Pennsylvania who supervised the construction of the diversion dam of the Snake River at Milner. The growth and development of the Filer community was an integral part of the successful south side irrigation project envisioned by men such as I.B. Perrine and Walter G. Filer.
