Fall is here, and with it comes the crisp air, autumn scenery, fun festivities and… pumpkin-spiced everything. While summers in Southern Idaho are filled with adventure, the options are endless if you’re looking for some “Cool Things” to get up to with your friends and family this fall. We’ve recently released the Fall edition of "12 Cool Things," filled with ideas for day trips and weekend getaways in the Magic Valley. Here are just a few of the highlights: Heaps of Sheep – Flank to one of the most unique and recognized cultural festivals in Idaho: Sun Valley’s Trailing of the Sheep. Named as one of the top 10 fall festivals in the world by USA Today and a top 10 Great Fall Festival by Smarter Travel, the annual event aims to preserve sheep herding’s history and culture in Idaho and the Western U.S. “The sheep are the center of the festival, but the sheep knit together a cultural tapestry of concerts, workshops, presentations, personalities, dogs and horses,” according to the organization’s website. Wine with a view – Visit Idaho’s 2017 Winery of the Year--Crossings Winery in Glenns Ferry--for the best in wine and autumn scenery. Crossings Winery offers wine tastings seven days a week and the opportunity to explore its beautiful vineyard. Want a bite to eat, too? The location offers two dining options, Tannins Restaurant and Tannins Tavern, with great atmospheres and live music. Brewing Tradition – Celebrate Oktoberfest in Downtown Twin Falls featuring food, car shows, music, street vendors and more during the first weekend of October. Visitors can explore the recent upgrades and improvements to the historic downtown district while taking in all the annual event has to offer. Hunters’ Game – Southern Idaho’s proximity to wildlife makes it the ideal place during hunting season. With millions of acres of accessible land, hunters have robust access to chukar, gray partridge and California Quail populations, in addition to big game and steelhead fishing. Plus, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game has interactive maps and other helpful tools to plan your next hunting trip. Eerie Experience – Brave your way through tremendous scares at the Haunted Mansions of Albion—the northwest’s largest indoor/outdoor haunted attraction. It’s so spooky, the mansion has gained national attention and will be featured in an upcoming episode of the Travel Channel’s “Ghost Adventures.” Time slots fill up fast, so be sure to grab your ticket online before you brave the “School of Chaos.” The “Cool Things” going down in Southern Idaho this fall don’t stop there. I've heard a few people recommend trying some of the local restaurants I think it's about time my family and I try some out We've been pretty busy over the last few months with home renovations, but now that we finally finished the last thing on our to-do list, refacing our cabinets, I'd like to get my family doing more things like this! Thank you for sharing!
